{"id":56,"date":"2018-01-15T02:00:03","date_gmt":"2018-01-15T02:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hifischool.com\/?p=56"},"modified":"2019-09-28T17:07:42","modified_gmt":"2019-09-28T09:07:42","slug":"how-to-listen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hifischool.com\/?p=56&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"How to listen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Somebody may listen to music with their eyes closed, necks craned with hundred percent concentration.\u00a0 It\u2019s all very well having a dynamic range of 90dB or so on your CD player, but if there is any household noise like washing machine or hair-dryer may lead to the quality lost.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, this is one of the reasons why systems tend to sound better late at night.\u00a0 In fact, for all the other theories of late night improvements \u2013 cleaner mains, better voltage and even lower levels of interference from neighbours\u2019 electrical such as PC, TV set.\u00a0 But the most persuasive argument is that of lower background noise \u2013 quiet listening environment.<\/p>\n<p>Soundproofing your room is the first step of a hi-fi \/ music enthusiast.\u00a0 It is nearly impossible for a normal family to have its dedicated listening room.\u00a0 I don\u2019t have it too; but I would share my experience for my pervious work in my home.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-519\" src=\"https:\/\/hifischool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Listeningenjoyment-clipart-274x300.png\" alt=\"Listening with Enjoyment\" width=\"274\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hifischool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Listeningenjoyment-clipart-274x300.png 274w, https:\/\/hifischool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Listeningenjoyment-clipart-768x840.png 768w, https:\/\/hifischool.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Listeningenjoyment-clipart.png 842w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 274px) 100vw, 274px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Keep your doors and windows closed, it will help much for reducing noise surrounded.\u00a0 Further, you should stop the washing machines, dishwashers (motor) or personal computer (cooling fan) while listening music.\u00a0 It is because they have mechanical activities during working time.\u00a0 Another suggestion is that you should have a dedicated power supply for the hi-fi equipment.\u00a0 Don\u2019t mix up the usage with other electrical, even the TV set for your home cinema.\u00a0 It also helps much in reducing the noise.<\/p>\n<p>It is not necessary to spend too much for building a listening room (even it is the best idea).\u00a0 The most extreme case I have seen is that there is an engineer in Hong Kong built up a very large steel cage with grounded-wire to filter all radio-frequency radiation.\u00a0 He is sitting inside the cage (better say &#8211; jail) for listening to his hi-fi.<\/p>\n<p>Switching off potential sources of radio-frequency radiation, such as computers and dimmer switches, can help no end.\u00a0 Moreover, you can keep your system \u201calways on\u201d and you can enjoy the music immediately.\u00a0 For more about warming up, please check another article \u201c<u>How Warming up Works<\/u>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>As there is nothing absolutely right in the world, you do not need to get all mystical.\u00a0 It is your own practical work to make your system better \u2013 achieving better music.\u00a0 However, read a book or magazine while the music\u2019s on and you are hearing, not listening; it\u2019s a matter of your attention being distracted.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve ever listened to your system with the lights out, you\u2019ll probably have discovered it sounds better; if you haven\u2019t, try it.\u00a0 Maybe those \u201cclosed-eye\u201d hi-fi fans had it right \u2013 reduce the visual distractions, and the sound gets better.<\/p>\n<p>Your system should probably perform better than you think.\u00a0 I have seen many people spend lots of wasting money for nothing.\u00a0 If you have bought a reasonable set, just try everything to let it be its best.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Somebody may listen to music with their eyes closed, necks craned with hundred percent concentration.\u00a0 It\u2019s all very well having a dynamic range of 90dB or so on your CD player, but if there is any household noise like washing machine or hair-dryer may lead to the quality lost.
